Meet Dr. Sarah Lowell

Before pursuing her PhD in clinical psychology, Dr. Lowell studied exercise and sports science (Bachelor’s degree) and sport and exercise psychology (Master’s degree). She worked with military service members, providing resilience and performance enhancement training, and as a health and wellness educator. These experiences sparked Dr. Lowell’s interest and passion for health psychology and behavioral medicine, highlighting how the mind and body are interconnected.

Dr. Lowell has clinical experience in various settings, including group private practices, academic medical centers, and several Veterans Affairs Medical Centers across the United States. She has experience in general mental health clinics and more specialized health and rehabilitation clinics, including solid organ transplant, integrated primary care, outpatient pain rehabilitation, behavioral sleep medicine, and blind rehabilitation. She completed an advanced postdoctoral fellowship in health psychology at the New Jersey War Related Illness and Injury Study Center, where she contributed to clinical research studies with Veterans suffering from complex medical concerns, difficult-to-diagnose conditions, and symptoms related to military and environmental exposures. Dr. Lowell was one of six winners nationwide for the 2024 Postdoctoral Health Psychology Award for Clinical Excellence from the Society for Health Psychology.

Dr. Lowell has over a decade of experience empowering individuals to improve their health and promoting health behavior change. She specializes in evidence-based psychotherapies that address a range of mental health concerns, including depression and anxiety. Her individualized approach, informed by her expertise in clinical health psychology, emphasizes the whole person and recognizes the complex interplay between the mind and body. She has specialty experience working with those adjusting to and managing chronic medical conditions, sleep, stress, chronic pain, and weight management. As an expert in behavior change, Dr. Lowell has experience working with individuals with health and wellness goals.
